Just wanted to let my readers know that as of sometime in January of 2011, I will be yet another Yankee who has fled to Texas. My wife has just accepted a job at a company based in Houston, and since I can do what I do from just about anywhere, we said… what the hell. Everyone else seems to be going to Texas, why not us?
Of course, they want her at her desk early in January. It’s now middle of December. Not a whole lot of time.Β So I’ll be a bit busy and preoccupied with the move. Blogging might take a hit, and I may be even more difficult to pin down, but it should all be over and done with by the end of December.
Houston, you’ve been warned.

But you will still be at ICNY right?
Wishing you all the best in Texas. Good luck with the move and all my best for the Holidays:)
Good place to be if you’re in real estate, Rob. That said, I can’t imagine the massive culture shock you’re about to be faced with, coming from NY! Good luck with the move.
Say hey to your new neighbors:

‘Houston…we have a problem.” How could I resist?
Sounds like a fun and exciting adventure! Please congratulate Lena for me π
Congrats do your wife! And good luck with the move! There are some great people in Houston–you are lucky you’ll be able to hang out with them f2f.
The Alamo is in San Antonio, but who cares! Welcome to Texas, pardner. π
Good news for you, Rob. Bad news for us. We’ll miss you in NYC.
I wish you and your family all the best.
Big Change, Rob including the climate:) But exciting too…Houston is lucky to have you!
I was gonna say I’d alert HAR, but I’m sure Rozlynn already has. π Change is exciting and I’m excited for you.
The GoodLife Team Welcomes you and your family to Texas my friend! I have a sinister grin on my face thinking of all kinds of havoc we can produce by you soon being only 2 hours away. Heh heh.
In all seriousness, let me know if we can help from the Texas side of the move.
Merry Christmas,
Krisstina & The GoodLife Team
Oh boy, you’d better strap in for the ride. TX in general is a very conservative area, which of course fits you just fine. Houston isn’t Austin, if that rowdy time a while back still conjures memories of smart people, great food and good times…Houston is a great big ole steaming mess of sprawl, which should be reminensct of the Jersery Turpike/the Garden State/and the Long Island freeway combined; plus, on a clear day (which does happen on occassion) you can see the oil refineries in the distance…Good luck to you and your family, and at least you can enjoy the brisket barbecue as I have noticed that you do like to cook on the grill. Those ole boys can show you how…
Good for you Rob. Everyone I know in Houston LOVES it (especially when oil is over $80 a barrel). Good luck to you guys
Oh, Rob, say it isn’t so. :(. We’ll miss you…and so will the NJ State Department of Taxation. Best wishes to you and Lena!
I made the same move in the 90s. Houston is a great city. I wasn’t born in Texas, but got here as fast as I could.
Rob, I am excited to hear that you will be joining us in Houston! As one of the 2010 Nex-Gen 20 Under 40 Rising Star recipients I sat front row for your guest speaker presentation. Enjoyed every bit of it too. Please let me know if we can help in any way.
